Unit Topic:

Light

Essential Question:

How and why do we use different kinds of light?

Focus Question for The Week:

What are shadows?

Foundational Text for The Week:

Moonbear's Shadow by Frank Asch

What things did Bear try in order to get rid of his shadow? Why didn’t anything work?

Can you always see your shadow? What are some times you can’t see it? What other shadows can you see?

Call children’s attention to illustrations showing the sun in different positions in the sky. Look here, the sun is lower in the sky. Do you think that means it’s morning, lunch time, or almost night time?

What was Bear’s problem in the beginning? At the end of the story, did Bear learn something?

Why can’t Bear see his shadow anymore? Did he really bury it?
